How to Get Unstuck in Business: Why Consistency Matters More Than Motivation

Leslie Boyce, MBA • April 10, 2026

How badly do you want it — and how hard are you willing to work?

There’s something I say often as a coach, and I mean it in the kindest way:

I cannot want your success more than you want it for yourself.

That applies in fitness.
And it absolutely applies in business.

I remember a conversation with a former gym member that has stuck with me for years.

She came to me frustrated and said:

“Leslie, I want to improve my mile time, but I’m not getting any faster. You need to add more running to the workouts.”

So I asked a few questions.

Did you make it to Thursday run club?

“No — after work is tough, and there are usually happy hours.”

What about the extra speed workouts I sent?

“I think I saw them… but I get so many emails.”

Are you consistently pushing your pace during class?

“Not always… and I like to sleep in instead of the Saturday endurance class.”

Sound familiar?

As a coach, I can guide, encourage, and create the plan.

But I cannot do the work for you.

And the same is true in business.

If you want momentum, clarity, and sustainable growth, there comes a point where you have to ask yourself:

How badly do I want this?

💪 Coach’s Cues

One and Done Won’t Cut It

One workout won’t suddenly make you stronger.

One email won’t suddenly grow your business.

One social media post won’t suddenly bring in consistent leads.

And one “productive day” won’t build the kind of business you actually want.

How to grow your business without burning out

A lot of business owners think the answer is doing more.

More ideas.
More content.
More tools.
More planning.

But sustainable business growth doesn’t come from random bursts of effort.

It comes from consistent, repeated action over time.

You can download the perfect social media calendar.

You can map out a beautiful launch.

You can create a strategy that looks great on paper.

But if you’re not actually using it — filling it in, posting, refining, following through — it won’t move the needle.

A coach can help you create the plan.

You still have to execute it.

Small Actions Create Real Momentum

One of the biggest mindset traps in business is assuming that only the “big wins” count.

But that’s not how progress works.

Most people have no problem listing everything that didn’t go well this week.

But what about what did?

  • Made one follow-up call this week? 💪
  • Took one step toward a new offer? 💪
  • Spent one focused hour solving a client problem? 💪
  • Sent the email you’ve been avoiding? 💪
  • Posted even when it felt imperfect? 💪

It might not feel like much in the moment.

But those small actions?

They stack.

And over time, they’re what actually create momentum.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, this is one of the fastest ways to get unstuck in business:

Start taking small, repeatable actions seriously.

Not because they’re flashy.
But because they’re effective.

If It’s a Priority, Your Actions Will Usually Show It

Here’s the truth I wanted to say to that gym member:

“I don’t think getting faster is actually a priority for you right now. And that’s okay.”

Because when something is truly a priority, your choices usually start to reflect it.

That doesn’t mean you have to be perfect.

It doesn’t mean you have to grind nonstop.

And it definitely doesn’t mean you need to do everything all at once.

But it does mean being honest with yourself.

A quick business clarity audit

If you’re overwhelmed or second-guessing your next move, ask yourself:

  • What changes do I actually want to see in my business?
  • What will it realistically take to make those changes?
  • Do I have the time, energy, and support to follow through?

That level of honesty is powerful.

Because once you stop pretending everything matters equally, it becomes much easier to focus on what actually does.

Overwhelmed? You’re Not Alone — But You Still Need a Plan

A lot of business owners live somewhere between these two thoughts:

“I know what I need to do… I’m just not doing it.”

or

“I’m so overwhelmed I don’t even know where to start.”

Both are incredibly normal.

But neither gets solved by waiting for motivation.

They get solved with clarity, structure, and execution.

That’s where support can make all the difference.

You don’t always need a giant overhaul.

Sometimes you just need:

  • one clear focus
  • a realistic action plan
  • someone to help you cut through the noise
  • and a structure you’ll actually follow

That’s often what creates the shift.

Consistency Over Intensity

This is one of the biggest lessons fitness teaches us — and one of the most important lessons for business owners too:

Consistency over intensity.

You do not need to be “all in” every second of every day.

You do not need to chase perfection.

And you do not need a more complicated strategy.

What you need is the willingness to:

  • decide what matters
  • commit to it
  • and keep showing up

That’s how business stamina is built.

That’s how confidence is built.

And that’s how real, sustainable growth happens.

Ready to Get Unstuck?

If you’ve been feeling scattered, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start, sometimes the best thing you can do is focus on one challenge at a time.

That’s exactly why I offer a 4-session sprint.

We meet once a week for a month and focus on one specific challenge in your business.

Together, we:

  • cut through the noise
  • prioritize what actually matters
  • create a realistic plan
  • and focus on execution

Because clarity is great.

But clarity + action?
That’s where momentum begins.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, scattered, or unsure where to start — this might be the right next step.
